Edward, please let me come. I can't sit here alone. I'll spaz attack. Johnny had reopened the links with his brother. He didn't need more rivalry. He wondered where his brother was. But as Edward said, he was a big boy. Either Edward didn't care, or Johnny was being too whiny. He convinced himself that it was the 2nd one.
